The breakdown of family relationships often causes a great deal of stress for all involved. This could be reduced by legal advisers who take a sympathetic and practical approach to the situation. Steed & Steed LLP can provide the right kind of support and experience in all areas of family law. We can assist you on a private basis or through Public Funding (formerly called Legal Aid) subject to your financial means.
We know that obtaining that initial advice is crucial, and appreciate that clients can be concerned about costs.
We have members of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) and members of The Law Society’s Advanced Family Law Panel on our matrimonial team who are available to give experienced sympathetic and professional advice on the following:
Divorce and Separation
We can advise you on the implications of dealing with matters by way of divorce or deed of separation. We will discuss the options with you in order to conclude matters as quickly and as amicably as possible.
We will attempt to resolve financial disputes amicably. However, if you feel that court proceedings will be necessary in order to achieve the best outcome for you, we will discuss the options with you. Sometimes it is necessary to use the Court’s procedure if the other party is not co-operating or it is not possible to reach an amicable agreement.
Private Children Matters
We always encourage parents to reach an agreement as to the arrangement for their children themselves. However, where this is not possible we can advise on the best options available to you. Sometimes it is necessary to apply for a Child Arrangement Order (formerly called custody) to confirm where a child will live. Sometimes it is necessary to apply for a Child Arrangement Order (formerly called access) to determine how much contact the child has with the other parent.
Child Protection/Care Proceedings
It can be a very worrying time for families when social services become involved and raise concerns about the care being given to children. We are able to provide specialist advice and representation to any parties involved with social services. Sian Jenkins and Pauline Matherson are both members of the Law Society Children Panel which is an accreditation from the Law Society awarded to those who are able to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in this area. They are able to advise and represent parents, family members and children (through Guardians) in care proceedings brought by the Local Authority. Please contact either Sian or Pauline if you are worried about social services involvement with your family.
Where you are having difficulties with a violent or abusive partner or you are being harassed by them, we are available to make emergency applications to the Court on order to protect you from further incidents of violence or harassment.
Contact one of our Matrimonial team to make an appointment to discuss your situation.
At the Sudbury Office we offer a fixed fee (£100 inclusive of VAT) consultation. This consultation can be up to an hour with a family law specialist, advice will be provided orally, and thereafter in writing by way of a letter. Contact Pauline Matherson on 01787 373387.
